SHS Activities
World Refugee Day has a special importance in the hearts of the refugees, because it reminds them that they are away from home, SHS keen to entertain refugees and celebrate with them in this day each year in coordination with the UNHCR the High Commissioner for Refugees and other organizations in Kharaz camp. On June 20, 2010 a ceremony was organized by humanitarian organizations working in the camp in coordination with UNHCR, attended by UNHCR protection officer Ms. Hala Hourani, a number of UNHCR staff and field officers of other organizations.
The ceremony began by reading from the Holy Quran recited by one of camp children from special needs.
Then Ms. Hala made a speech on the occasion, encouraging the refugees and said that: despite you faced the wars and the displacement from your houses and your home; you are the only one who makes your own future through education and strong-will in a country like Yemen which to open its doors to live peacefully and safe.
Then, the Sheikh of block leaders has spoken on the occasion.
The Celebration varied between songs presented by children from neighboring villages, songs and plays made by the refugees in Somali language.
During the celebration T-shirts were distributed bearing the logo of occasion provided by UNHCR and partner organizations, the celebration has continued for two hours from ten in the morning until noon, the audience participated in dancing and encouraging, also the celebration included a humorous scenes presented by the children of the camp.
