The establishment of Society for Humanitarian and Solidarity (SHS)was on (1995) in Mayfa’a district (Shabwa Governorate) its main objective was to assist the elderly and the needy, orphans and refugee relief and relief in need in time of calamities.
The society established and grew up with a very simple support from the good benefactors, in the beginning SHS work focus on the orphan’s sponsorship and distribute donations in seasons, such as Ramadan and Eid and etc.
And because MAYFA’A was the first destination for Somali refugees and displaced people from Horn of Africa; (SHS) taken care to assist and help them before the existing of (UNHCR) there, by coordinating with authorities in SHABWA and the President of SHS.
The Authority in SHABWA has supported SHS for long time and covered the costs of assisting refugees and their transportation to (JAHIN in ABYAN).Refugees Camp at that time.
SHS got the permit from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in July 1999.
SHS has participated actively with Yemeni and international civil society organizations in developing charitable and humanitarian work in all fields through its active and continuous presence in seminars, workshops and conferences in and outside Yemen to deliver the voice of the needy and refugees who need a helping hand.
SHS also got support in several fields from foreign embassies in Yemen and other international organizations, local and foreign supporters which were focused in the field of education, health and water projects, orphans sponsorship, refugees relief, and disaster relief such as the victims of the floods in HADRAMOUT in 2008, and landslides in (Aldhafeer village) in Sana’a and SAADA wars, in Yemen and elsewhere.
In all the disasters that occurred and where people need help (SHS) was presented the first to provide a helping hand.
Because of the international reputation of SHS and according to its good relations with the local and international civil society organizations, and their relevance to the local and international supporters, SHS works as a mediator to raise the relief appeal of afflicted people and to facilitate the arrival of assistance As soon as possible.
SHS Will continue to grow day after day, (thanks to God) and thanks to its accuracy, sincerity and transparency in implementing the projects and even its financially contribution in implementing those projects, which increased the confidence of supporters in SHS abilities to carry out humanitarian tasks entrusted to it in various areas, and make it an important element in the construction and development of the Yemeni society.
The staff of SHS often risk their own lives to save new arrivals from refugees and do extraordinary effort to save them and buried the refugees who did not make so thanks to SHS. 
The UNHCR in Yemen is proud that Society for Humanitarian Solidarity wins the Nansen Refugee Award in 2011, that for their great services they provide to refugees escaped from violence, drought and poverty and who arrived to Yemeni shores in miserable circumstances .
Thousands of refugees owe their survival to the people working for the Society for Humanitarian Solidarity with their complete dedication to the service of mankind deserves this global recognition and support.
